Chandlers Ford have kickstarted Jubilee Celebrations

Dame Mary Fagan Lord Lieutenant of Hampshire has kickstarted the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Celebrations in Chandler’s Ford.

On Friday 16th March, Dame Mary opened both the new Diamond jubilee garden and the newly restored pavilion on Fryern Hill recreation ground.

The Lord Lieutenant was greeted in song by children from Fryern Junior School and after visiting their school, she moved to the nearby recreation ground where she performed the opening ceremony and saw the raising of the Diamond Jubilee flag by a tree especially planted to commemorate the occasion.

Dame Mary said this was the first jubilee garden she had opened and complemented the parish council on starting their celebrations early.

Speaking on behalf of the Parish Council, Cllr Atkinson thanked John Morris and Paul Naylor for their work in preparing the garden and Cllr Michael Hughes for overseeing the project.

Many local businesses and individuals had sponsored the garden and Cllr Atkinson also extended thanks to Ahmad Teas, Johnathan Rees, Coopervision and Cllr Colin Davidovitz.
